Since 1981, (to 1997) Health Canada has received reports of 11 deaths and over 50 injuries related to the malfunction, failure or misuse of patient lifts in Canada. In the United States, there have been over 41 deaths and 443 injuries reported to the US Food and Drug Administration since 1985 (to 1997).

The audio files of an actual criminal trial are located on this CD-ROM. In this trial you'll hear how a resident fell out of a Patient Lift and died in Hospital a few days later. One nurse plead guilty to avoid the trial. A Certified Nursing Assistant as well as the Nurse Manager stood trial and both were convicted. The Nurse Manager was sentenced to 19 months in prison.
